GRADE II LISTED LETTERING

The designs are made from my classic collection of London Traditional Sign writing styles.

These have been traced with meticulous attention to detail, from my London restoration projects and from things that have caught my eye around the city… and actually around the world.

Most of the time travelling between projects I find ‘old world’ lettering examples that are just superb examples and photograph them for mey records – back in the studio I draw from these deep historic treasures, penning them them up to absolute accuracy, and then vectorising the engravings into my computer graphics archive library of over 80, unique and bespoke alphabets.

These letter or ‘glyph’ (shapes) are then plotted out for each custom restoration project: setting out spacing and final editing (shown below) for the correct architectural match-up.

It’s all this hidden, inner world detail and preparation that shines through to the final piece.

By doing probably a bit too much detailing in the design process, I can then relax, feeling the work is absolutely completed to my very best, as I lay my brush down on the finished lettering.

My focus becomes the client’s joy.
