Margate Shells
Shells were always fascinating me and I used to collect some whenever I had the chance to be on a beach. But I really started to get addicted when I moved to the coast.
A whole new world of forms and colours was opening up for me, and I couldn’t resist to collect and collect and collect… and they started to lay around everywhere in my flat and studio.
It was just a matter of time before I started to paint and gild them.

ABOUT THE SHELLS
Shells are pure positivity! Specially the oysters were taking my attention. That contrast of a wild rough outside and silky inside is fascinating and beautyful. Like landscapes made of stone and ivory. I want to keep all the natural given beauty of the shells. That’s why I decided to clean them as sustainable as possible. I don’t use any bleachers or other hard chemicals. This process needs a bit more time, but the shells deserve it!

Every shell is naturally a unique piece. I care about using only the best materials such as high quality gold leaf and enamels. All the colors I paint with are specially matched for every single shell.
